There is another contribution option for those age 70 1⁄2 or older – a charitable contribution from your IRA. The Qualified Charitable Distribution was made a permanent provision in 2015 in the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act, and makes this a highly beneficial option. Such a donation reduces gross income, is not subject to income taxes, counts toward the required minimum distribution, and is not included in the charitable deduction limitation.
